Gail Montplaisir is the founder and President of Taurus Development Group and Taurus Renovation & Construction, full service development, construction and management companies that are part of the Taurus Group of Companies and which are committed to harnessing optimal, professional solutions to achieve client goals and to deliver projects with on-time completion and within budget requirements.

Gail has managed and directed development and construction projects throughout the Midwest and Eastern U.S. since 1979. A native of Willow Springs, Illinois, and a graduate of Illinois State University, Gail started her career as a member of the development team for First Condominium Development Company of Chicago and subsequently the Vice President of Michaelson Properties; Gail was involved in the acquisition, development, construction and equity financing of more than $200 million worth of property, including more than 3,000 apartment and condominium units in Chicago, Florida, metro Washington, D.C. and the Eastern Seaboard.

Gail is recognized as an authority on urban housing, energy efficiency and sustainability, particularly in old and historic neighborhoods, and on the impact of redevelopment and construction on the environment and streetscape. She has written and interviewed extensively on these subjects and has been a featured speaker at various conferences and assemblies. She was a co-founder of Man Environment Relations Research Institute (MERRI), a non-profit organization formed in the early 1990s for the study of sustainable development and construction techniques.

As part of the Taurus’s outreach commitment, Gail has also expanded the Taurus companies into Work-Force and energy efficiency training both for market-rate and green-collar job programs. She has also participated in several round tables to address sustainable workforce development policies with Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis as well as the advancement of women owned businesses in federal contracting with Regional Administrator, National Capitol Region of the GSA, Julia Hudson.

Gail serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors Peace X Peace (www.peacexpeace.org) as well as on the Board of Advisors of DC Greenworks (www.dcgreenworks.org). She has also been active with other community organizations such as Martha’s Table, Our Place DC and United Communities Against Poverty.
