WASHINGTON –Taurus Renovation & Construction (TRC) was selected by Catholic University of America to install a new Green Roof on Aquinas Hall as a part of their green facility upgrades. TRC was also selected to perform renovations to McCarthy Hall.

The McCarthy Hall renovation will include modern light filled conference room space, improved lighting and overall facilities to add to the educational experience. The Aquinas Hall green roof will cover about 1,500 square feet of the roof and will consist of modules by LiveRoof that will be installed by DC greenworks. DC greenworks is a 501(c)3 in the District of Columbia that installs green roofs, rain barrels and other low impact development measures.

“Catholic University of America has done a tremendous amount of greening of their campus including installation of solar panels on building roofs and over parking areas and is looking to install more green roofs throughout the campus. Every green roof we install helps to improve the quality of the District’s rivers and tributaries,” Gail Montplaisir, President of Taurus Development Group said.

The Green Demonstration Project for the Town of Capitol Heights was funded with the Energy Efficiency Community Development Block Grant (EECDBG) by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in the amount of $114,500. These funds have been used to create a “Green” Demonstration area at the Town Hall so that residents can see items that improve energy efficiency in their own homes. The long lasting improvements to the Town Hall have made the building and community room much more energy efficient and improved the look of the building. Some of the new features include triple pane windows, solar panels, green roof, A/C and furnace replacements, water smart fixtures and toilets and other items.

Gail Montplaisir, President of Taurus Development Group said, “We are very honored to have been selected by the Town of Capitol Heights to work together in partnership to bring to fruition the visionary thinking of the Mayor and Council. What better way to reach out to the community to increase energy efficiency than by creating a state of the art demonstration at the Town Hall. Taurus and the town are also working with United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) to employ residents of Prince George’s County to perform the upgrades at the town hall and provide further training in solar installations.”

WASHINGTON – For the third time in a row, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) and Taurus Development Group (TDG) partnered to fulfill a grant for energy efficiency for the Maryland Department of the Environment. UCAP’s Clean and Green Communities program served over 100 residents of Prince George’s County in 2011 and is poised to upgrade an additional 50 homes in 2012.

Gail Montplaisir, President of Taurus Development Group said, “MEA has been funding programs to serve low and moderate income households throughout Maryland. Our partnership with UCAP has been a rewarding experience; being able to bring energy efficiency upgrades to home owners throughout Prince George’s County that save energy and help residents to save money, truly makes a difference!”

The first year of the partnership, UCAP and TDG provided training to Prince George’s County residents to do energy audits and perform the energy efficiency work thereby helping residents to become a part of the new green economy. In 2012, the program focused on installing the most cost effective energy efficiency measures including air sealing, insulation, programmable thermostats as well as upgrades to HVAC systems and appliances.

“As residents monitor their energy usage, from pre-Clean and Green Communities and after installation of these measures, we are confident that they will see a significant drop in their energy usage,” said Montplaisir.

This Demonstration Project is being funded with the Energy Efficiency Community Development Block Grant (EECDBG) by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in the amount of $114,500. These funds have been used to create a “Green” Demonstration area at the Town Hall so that residents can see items that improve energy efficiency in their own homes.

“The Town has taken a holistic approach at the development of this project to provide opportunities for residents to see the hands on ways they make easy ‘green’ changes to save energy and money.” Mayor Kito A James said. The long lasting improvements to the Town Hall have made the building and community room much more energy efficient and improved the look of the building. Some of the new features include triple pane windows, solar panels, green roof, A/C and furnace replacements, water smart fixtures and toilets and other items.

WASHINGTON – The long awaited DC Sustainable Energy Utility contract was granted to Vermont Energy Investment Corporation and its 8 DC Teaming Partners. The Teaming Partners who have won this energy efficiency program management contract include Taurus Development Group, and its partners, PEER Consultants, George L. Nichols & Associates, DC Project, Institute for Market Transformation, LS Caldwell & Assoc, PES Group and Skyline Innovations.

The Council of the District of Columbia enacted the Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008 (CAEA), which called for the creation of the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DC SEU). The DC SEU is funded by the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund, established by the CAEA.

The District Department of the Environment contracted with the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation and its DC Teaming Partners to form the DC SEU. The purpose of the DC SEU is to design and implement programs that will lead to a reduction in energy use throughout the District of Columbia.

Taurus Development Group is a CBE developer, contractor and energy efficiency entrepreneur that has been working in sustainability since its inception in 1987. Taurus has stepped into the role of Workforce Development and Contractor Development Manager for the first year of the DC SEU because of their experience in working with workforce development programs and their deep experience in management of teams, programs and multiple contractors.

Gail Montplaisir, President of the Taurus companies said, “This is a long awaited event in the District of Columbia. We look forward to contributing to making the District the greenest city in America! The DC Government has shown the vision and commitment and the DC professional community has the talent, drive and commitment to make our energy efficiency goals, social equity goals and business development a reality. We count on the leadership and mentorship committed to the District by VEIC to make our goals a reality!”
