GREEN BUILDING
Taurus offers eco-chic™ packages that are both environmentally friendly and rife with contemporary elegance. Rising energy costs and increasing public awareness of global warming issues are prompting many homeowners to seek out green building features that increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Ever mindful of the need for social responsibility, Taurus is amongst the leaders in eco-friendly design, allowing their home buyers to foster their need for sleek, innovative design, while providing a sustainable, comfortable home.
- Water use and re-use
The use of on-site stormwater management practices and high-efficiency water fixtures are integral to Taurus Development Group’s design principles. In the National Capital Region, our waterways are so polluted that even the most aggressive remediation plans do not foresee DC residents using the rivers for recreation until 2030. Green roofs, rainbarrels, bioretention cells, and conservative use of water all contribute to the health of our ecosystem and to the long term goals of the DC Water and Sewer Authority and the District of Columbia. TDG built several of the first commercial green roofs in DC, which provide both environmental and aesthetic benefits, along with replacement of native habitat for birds bees and plants.
- Lighting efficiency
Lighting should make a room feel bright and full, while consuming the least amount of electricity possible. Recent advances in lighting technology such as light emitting diodes (LED lights) that consume as little as 10% of the electricity of incandescent bulbs.
- Building envelope
- Fictures + finishes
TDG uses local and sustainably harvested products wherever possible. We also use no-VOC paint and strive to recycle materials in design on-site during renovations.
