Town of Capitol Heights Green Demonstration Project completed

The Green Demonstration Project for the Town of Capitol Heights was funded with the Energy Efficiency Community Development Block Grant (EECDBG) by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in the amount of $114,500. These funds have been used to create a “Green” Demonstration area at the Town Hall so that residents can see items that improve energy efficiency in their own homes. The long lasting improvements to the Town Hall have made the building and community room much more energy efficient and improved the look of the building. Some of the new features include triple pane windows, solar panels, green roof, A/C and furnace replacements, water smart fixtures and toilets and other items.Gail Montplaisir, President of Taurus Development Group said, “We are very honored to have been selected by the Town of Capitol Heights to work together in partnership to bring to fruition the visionary thinking of the Mayor and Council. What better way to reach out to the community to increase energy efficiency than by creating a state of the art demonstration at the Town Hall. Taurus and the town are also working with United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) to employ residents of Prince George’s County to perform the upgrades at the town hall and provide further training in solar installations.”
